WHY GRAIN-FREE?

Written by // Lisa Elias Categories // My Pets Dr Blog, pet nutrition, cat health, dog health

WHAT’S THE SAYING? YOU CAN’T TEACH AN OLD DOG NEW TRICKS. WELL MY 11 YEAR OLD JACK RUSSELL TERRIER WOULD BEG TO DIFFER… HE HAS JUST RECENTLY STARTED JUMPING FOR JOY!

samboThis is the story of my dog Sambo and his switch to a grain-free diet.  It might also seem like a story about poop.  Because – let’s be honest – poop consistency is a big issue with a food change.  It’s the main reason why there was this 2 week journey to transition from the old to the new.  In the end, all of the food measuring and doody discourse was worth seeing some extra spring in my old man’s step!

Should You Be Concerned About Fleas In Your Home?

pup scratchingIt’s June - and as they say – spring has sprung.  Flowers are popping up everywhere and so are fleas.

Dr. Wheaton takes us back to his experience back in the '80s with fleas... "My first job was definitely the most challenging job of my entire life.  My father's pest control company also would flea dip the customer's dogs and cats which was my job.  So, take yourself back to the 80s and remember how ridiculously bad the flea situation was in Orange County.  Then put a 12 year old with a scared cat in the bath tub inside a sweltering pop-top van.  Add some potent, flea-killing poison dip and you get the worst job on Earth.  Oddly enough, that experience for three years did not dissuade me from working with animals for the rest of my life."  Luckily for you we have come a long way since the '80s in providing easy to use treatments to keep pesty fleas away from our pets.  You may be wondering what products are best for your pets or if they even need them at all.
