FEBRUARY IS NATIONAL PET DENTAL HEALTH MONTH

HOW DO YOU KNOW IT'S TIME TO BRING IN YOUR PET?

Dental Month

(** Two of the scariest dentists you may have seen in movies **)

Last year, around this time, it was me in the dentist chair. I blogged about it… about my fears, about what happened and what I needed to have done after not visiting the dentist in about 2 years. Well, this year, here we are, on the brink of Dental Month in the veterinary world, and it’s our longtime hospital administrator, Josh, who finds himself at the dentist. Josh doesn’t really love the dentist. Let me say that differently: he doesn’t even like the dentist. He tries to avoid going, he doesn’t want to pay for anything that isn’t “absolutely necessary” or “causing pain”. I’m sure all of you who know how stories like this go are clued into what’s coming next. You’re right: this doesn’t always turn out in Josh’s favor. Those times dismissing the need for a dentist visit (even just for a check-up) can so easily lead to those things that most of us agree to fear: root canals, fillings and crowns, etc.

HOW IMPORTANT IS DENTAL WORK FOR YOUR PET?

YOUR PET'S DENTAL HEALTH IS MORE THAN JUST CLEAN TEETH AND BETTER BREATH...

marathon man l

There I was, in the dentist chair, waiting to hear the results of the examination on my teeth. This was a new dentist for me and I had not been for my annual or semi-annual cleaning in getting close to two years now. Don’t judge me. We’ve all been there. I was experiencing a little anxiety at what I assumed would be the news. Root canal? Cavities all over the place? At one of my last appointments at my previous dentist, they had identified a tooth that possibly needed a crown, so how much worse had that situation gotten? Well, I definitely needed that crown, they said. Very fortunately, the decay had not gotten to the point where I would need a root canal. Just those two words together make me cringe. Being a big fan of the film Marathon Man hasn’t done great things for my outlook on dentistry, I must admit.

MOXXOR IS SPONSORING JADE'S RECOVERY

Jade was brought to Alicia Pet Care Center by Coastal German Shepherd Rescue

This is the story of Jade, a dog rescued by the good people of Coastal German Shepherd Rescue.

"On a Sunday morning, one of our kennel caretakers was opening up the gates to the kennel and noticed a dog walking along the street by herself. She called her and she immediately ran right up the driveway into the kennel building. What she then noticed was horrifying."
