A vet clinic has shared the hilarious moment a male veterinarian was taken aback as he went to greet a new patient, only to learn that she hates men.

Family-owned Alicia Pet Care Center (APCC) in Orange County, California, shared the light-hearted moment on their TikTok page where it has been viewed more than 7 million times. In the video, the vet tech went to greet the patient only to find the sign on the door that read: "Bella hates men."

A spokesperson for APCC told Newsweek: "The way we presented the sign specifically in this video was actually for comedic effect since we are a modern hospital and simply use digital patient charts."

But they do always make sure that staff get as much information as possible about the patient.

"We do always have alerts for our patients, like 'go slow with nail trims' or 'can open exam room door,' or like in the video, 'hates men,'" said APCC.

This is all designed to ensure an experience for the animal that is as stress-free as possible.

It isn't uncommon for dogs to have specific things they dislike or are afraid of. Dogs can be afraid of men, the car, or even your fluffy pink slippers, and the reasons for this can vary.

Reasons for fears in dogs range from past traumatic experiences, to lack of socialization and experience.

"Working with animals is so different from people—they can't tell you 'I'm uncomfortable' or 'my knee hurts' so you really have to listen to what their pet parents have observed at home and read the pet's body language in the exam room," they added.

The video was designed to be a light-hearted nod to a common situation for veterinarian staff.

"I just thought it would be a relatable video to share for vet techs or vets who experience this, but also for pet parents to see a little bit of the behind-the-scenes when it comes to their pet's care," APCC said.

"As far as the reaction—I'm glad people liked our video. I just want to say on the record it was not meant to be a 'Man hating' post, but just a comedic post about some of the things we see regularly."
