Acupuncture
Acupuncture can treat a wide range of ailments, a few that may be beneficial to your pets include:
- Pain relief – There are certain acupuncture points that will stimulate the release of opioid-like factors to relieve pain for 24-48 hours. Therefore, acupuncture can be performed in conjunction or in place of having to give your pet a pain medication after an injury or surgery. This is a great alternative to pets that are hard to pill, or pets that have unwanted side effects to pain medications.
- Kidney disease – There are specific acupuncture points that when electrostimulated, assist in treating kidney disease. This is done by neuromodulating the spinal nerves that supply the kidneys. These points are recommended for any pet with decreased kidney function and have been scientifically proven to work. Additional acupuncture points can also be used to assist in treating various clinical signs that pets with kidney disease may experience (i.e vomiting, nausea, decreased appetite).
- Epilepsy – Acupuncture has been scientifically proven to control seizures when performed on a regular basis.
- Gastrointestinal disease – Acupuncture works in controlling the symptoms of various acute and chronic GI diseases.
- Intervertebral Disc disease – Acupuncture can be used to prevent your pet from needing back surgery or to speed up the recovery process after back surgery. Colorado State University actually recommends and sees a higher prognosis and return to full function with acupuncture + medical management vs. back surgery in pets presenting with the inability to move their back legs.
- Skin issues – Acupuncture is used to increase the immune systems defense system to assist in healing. Example of skin issues that would benefit from acupuncture include lick granuloma, wounds, otitis externa (ear infections), allergies, lacerations and skin infections.
- Muscle tension, strains or sprains – Acupuncture can help with primary muscle strains as well as compensatory pain; such as tense neck muscles due to a shift in weight from hip pain.
- Chronic bronchitis – Acupuncture is used to neuromodulate the spinal nerves that supply the lungs. Treatment also includes treating neck and chest muscle pain and tension that may occur when pets with chronic respiratory issues that are excessively using those muscles to assist in breathing.
- Wellness – Acupuncture can be used in a healthy pet to keep them well balanced and to offer extra immune support.

Anesthesia
We use the safest available anesthetics which provide that extra margin of safety in our patients. All anesthetized animals will have an IV catheter placed for fluids during the procedure and will be monitored with an E.K.G., pulse oxymeter, blood pressure, end-tidal CO2 and temperature. In addition, our trained surgical Registered Veterinary Technicians monitor the patient’s vital signs every 2 to 5 minutes depending on the risk factor of the patient. We only use Sevoflurane anesthesia, which is currently the safest available gas anesthetic.

Grooming
APCC offers standard grooming services such as nail trimming, ear cleaning, and anal gland expressions.
Hydrosurge baths: Routine and medicated baths for dogs ONLY are available Monday through Saturday. Our bathing services include a pedicure, anal gland expression, and a surface ear cleaning.
Hydrosurge bathing is a state-of-the-art professional bathing system that massages as it cleans. Through a hand held massage sprayer it combines shampoo and water that penetrates through the coat leaving it thoroughly clean and at the same time gently massaging our furry friends. It provides for healthier skin and removes loose hair, dead skin, fleas and other debris.
All our bathing dogs are brushed prior to their bath to eliminate any mats. They also receive a complimentary pedicure, anal gland expression and surface ear cleaning. After bathing, the drying process begins with a hand held drier, and then our furry friend is placed in a cage drier, where they can relax and enjoy a nice breeze blowing over them. They are brushed out for a second time and then again prior to going home.
Our bathing service is offered only to our canine friends, Monday through Saturday. So why not take advantage of this unique bathing system and treat your “baby” to a spa day!
Health Care Programs
APCC offers a variety of healthcare programs for adult, pediatric, and geriatric pet care. Services include annual examinations, vaccinations, parasite control, dental care programs, and nutritional counseling.
Hospital Care
Patients with medical conditions requiring hospitalization for iv fluids, injections, or specialized testing can be housed on-site and every need can be attended to. Our doctors have received intensive training in the treatment of critical patients and have passed on that knowledge to the support staff. In the event that specialized care is required, specialists in every field are available for phone or e-mail consultation.
Laboratory
Our complete in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis, and parasite testing. In addition to our in-house laboratory, we have a full-service reference laboratory that picks up specimens two times daily. Virtually any test possible can be performed on a daily basis.
Laparoscopic Surgery
Certain conditions allow for or require the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques. Laparoscopy allows for small incisions to enter the body via a camera, which significantly decreases pain and speeds healing. Common procedures include spays, cryptorchid testicle removal, liver biopsies, prophylactic gastropexy and more. We are proud to offer this cutting edge service to our clients
Laser Therapy
K-SERIES LASER/CLASS IV LASER THERAPY
What is it?
Advanced pain relief that is a non surgical, drug free treatment option. Laser Therapy or “photobiomodulation” is the use of specific wavelengths of light (red or near-infrared) to create therapeutic effects. These include improved healing time, pain reduction, increased circulation and decreased swelling. FDA clearance occurred in 2002.
What to expect:
There is no sedation or restraint required. Improvement can be seen after one visit, but most patients require several treatments (3 to 8) for the greatest benefit. Treatments last 2 to 8 minutes and are cumulative in nature. The length and frequency of treatments depends on your pet’s condition. There is little to no sensation during treatment and very few side effects have ever been reported (occasionally some old injuries or pain syndromes may feel aggravated for a few days, as the healing response is more active after treatment).
Laser Therapeutic Effects:
During each painless treatment, laser energy increases circulation, drawing water, oxygen, and nutrients to the damaged area. This creates an optimal healing environment that reduces inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain. As the injured area returns to normal, function is restored and pain is relieved.
Cellular Effect of Laser Therapy:
During Laser Therapy the infrared laser light interacts with tissues at the cellular level, and metabolic activity increases within the cell, improving the transport of nutrients across the cell membrane. This initiates the increased production of cellular energy that leads to a cascade of beneficial effects, increasing cellular function and health.
What conditions can Laser Therapy help with?
- Osteoarthritis
- Joint pain tendinopathies
- Edema and congestion
- Ligament sprains
- Muscle strains
- Puncture wounds
- Post-traumatic injury
- Post-surgical pain (including dental)
- Neck and back pain
- Hip dysplasia
- Burns
- Chronic wounds
- Rehabilitation
- Post-orthopedic surgical recovery
- Chronic ear infections and skin infections
- Speeds recovery of ear infections and lick granulomas
- Speeds recovery of large wounds that must heal by second intention
